Plumbing work is often hidden behind walls and under floors. If it’s done badly, you may not see problems until months later. So before major work starts, asking a few clear questions is smart.
First, ask what exactly they plan to do and why. “Which pipes are you changing? Is it necessary to break this wall? Are there alternatives?” Understanding the plan helps you judge if the solution is sensible or excessive.
Ask which materials they’ll use—pipe brands, fittings, valves. Good-quality parts last longer and reduce the risk of leaks. If you’re paying a good amount, you have a right to know what’s going in.
Check how long the work will take and whether water needs to be fully shut off during that time. This helps you plan your day and coordinate with family members or neighbours if shared lines are affected.
It’s also fair to ask if they will test the system before closing the wall or tiling. Proper pressure testing or running the line for some time can reveal leaks early.
Finally, confirm if there’s any basic guarantee for their work. Even an informal “call me if there’s an issue in the next few weeks” matters. A professional is usually confident in their own work.
