Everyone has a budget, and it’s natural to look for savings during renovation. But some areas are not worth compromising on, because they affect safety, durability and daily comfort. Cheap now can become expensive later.
Electrical work is one place where quality matters more than a small saving. Good wires, proper earthing, correct MCBs and branded switches reduce fire risk and future breakdowns. You don’t see the wiring once walls close, so this is not a place for “chalega” thinking.
Plumbing is another area to handle carefully. Low-quality pipes, fittings and valves can leak inside walls, damage paint and tiles, and cost you heavily in repairs. Use trusted brands, and make sure joints are properly sealed and tested before closing the wall.
Flooring and waterproofing also deserve attention. You walk on floors every day, and water seepage can silently ruin structure and interiors over time. If your budget is tight, you can choose simpler designs or fewer decorative elements, but don’t skip good waterproofing or proper floor laying.
On the other hand, you can save on easily changeable items like wall colours, some light fixtures, loose furniture or decor. These can be upgraded later when you have more money.
Think long term: where failure will cause the most pain, spend wisely. Where change is simple, be flexible and adjust to your budget.
